Our club greatly thanks all the contestants who submitted entries into 2014’s Essay Contest on the topic: How Dreams Lead to Success

Two of our top three winners (pictured below) came to our weekly club meeting this past Tuesday to read their essays and accept their awards.

We especially thank our committee members (headed by Jean White) and judges who helped us select the top three winners for our club.  All winners received scholarships from our club for excellent work.  Our first place winner will proceed to the District competition, competing with winners from other Florida clubs for a chance at a plaque and a $2,500 college scholarship!

The Oviedo Winter Springs Optimist Club is dedicated to “Bringing Out the Best in Kids”  We hope that, through the scholarship programs and community events we sponsor, the youth in our communities receive opportunities to excel and build confidence and civic pride.  Hats off to our 2014 winners!

The Essay Contest is held every year for students under 19 years of age who have not yet graduated from high school or the equivalent and attend school in the United States, Canada or the Caribbean. Students residing on U.S. military bases overseas are eligible to enter using their last U.S. home of record. All Club contests are held by early February.  Check back to our website later in 2014 for application forms and deadlines for 2015.  And of course, please consider joining us at any of a number of our events or at our weekly club meetings.
