2020 Topic:
Is optimism the key to achieving dreams you iMagine?

Purpose: This contest is sponsored by Optimist International to give young people room to develop their own views around a central idea. In addition to the opportunity for written expression, participants have the chance to win a college scholarship!

Who: Youth under the age of 19 as of October 1, 2019 located in the United States, Canada, or the Caribbean.

How To Enter: Interested students must contact, Jean White. They need to submit an essay on the assigned topic. Essay, application and birth certificate must be emailed to Jean White in Microsoft word or PDF format by February 9th, 2020 in order to be entered into the contest.

Length: 700-800 words

Deadline: February 9, 2020

Be sure to open the application in Adobe Acrobat Reader ​to use the fill-able function.

Previous Winners:

Scholarships are awarded to students in the United States and the Caribbean in US dollars.

Club prize: Medallion – plus monetary awards to be announced

District prize: Plaque and a $2,500 college scholarship

Please include your essay as a Microsoft Word document along with the completed entry form, and a scan of your birth certificate.

Not in Oviedo or Winter Springs?

Our Club would be happy to accept any qualifying contestant from throughout the area for either the ESSAY or ORATORICAL CONTESTS. The one rule, however, is that a contestant may only participate in each contest through only ONE CLUB(whichever one they pick). NO participant may submit for a given contest through more than one Optimist Club in any given year.
